About SuYoung
The Pacific Northwest is my home. I grew up in the rainforest, awestruck by its towering evergreen trees.
My mother tongue is Korean. I was born in Korea and later moved to the United States. Since then, the Pacific Northwest has been my home. Growing up in its rainforests shaped how I see and understand the world. The evergreen trees, constant rain, and shifting light became a daily presence in my life.
I was influenced by quiet moments outdoors. The cold morning air brushing against my skin, rain-soaked grass beneath me, and the scent of shrubs as I moved through the landscape. These experiences grounded me and gave me a lasting sense of belonging. Being in nature made me aware that I am part of something larger than myself.
My work as a landscape artist grows from this awareness. Rather than simply depicting scenery, I seek to express the atmosphere and presence of the land. The moments of stillness, scale, and connection. Through my paintings, I aim to share how the landscape feels and invite others to pause and experience it with the same attentiveness and respect.
